Hangovers seem to be the body’s way of reminding us about the hazards of overindulgence. Physiologically, it’s a group effort: Diarrhea, fatigue, headache, nausea, and shaking are the classic symptoms. Sometimes, systolic (the upper number) blood pressure goes up, the heart beats faster than normal, and sweat glands overproduce — evidence that the “fight or flight” response is revved up.
The best way to cue the hangover is to enhance the natural detoxification processes whilst also providing a good dose of antioxidants. There are also some great herbs that tonify and strengthen processes within the liver.
- Ginger
Ginger is a flowering plant that originated in Southeast Asia. It’s among the healthiest (and most delicious) spices on the planet. Ginger is warm and protective that makes It stimulates blood flow and is renowned for reducing nausea and settling an upset stomach. Its warmth and spice also stimulate the metabolism which in turn enhances detoxification. Ginger can be used fresh, dried, powdered, or as an oil or juice. It’s a very common ingredient in recipes.

Chamomile is great for calming and relaxing the mind and body in general. Chamomile tea has long been used, as a traditional folk remedy, for a wide range of health issues. As a hangover cure, chamomile can also get to work on indigestion or a headache.
